5 Cars We’re Most Excited About This Year

It’s a new year, and that means new cars!

2017 saw some big changes in the landscape of automobiles. Self-driving cars became more mainstream, Tesla became the largest car company in the US for a short while, and many incredible cars were released like the Mclaren Senna and the AMG GT-R. However, it’s a new year, and that means there will be a slew of new cars coming out soon as companies fight for the headlines and to release the next big thing. Here are 5 cars set to be released this year that we are most excited about.

5) Mid-Engine Corvette

While the mid-engine corvette likely won’t be announced or released this year, everyone is itching for more information about Chevy’s new Porsche 911 competitor. American car makers have often tried to make sports cars and supercars that could compete with their European counterparts, but have often fallen short. The problem that always seems to hold American manufacturers back is a lack of willingness to tackle new ideas. Car names are often associated with a long legacy and manufacturers are reluctant to make drastic changes to their greatest hits. Chevy is one manufacturer that’s taking on the heavy lifting in the area by making a mid-engine Corvette to compete with 911-class cars.

A change so drastic could have some major impacts to the existing Corvette and ZR1. Simply put, if a mid-engine Corvette provides the weight distribution and handling improvements that American cars so desperately need to compete with the likes of Porsche, it could be Chevy’s next big thing. However, it also has the potential to make the existing front-engine rear-wheel-drive Corvette obsolete, which would anger enthusiasts. If Chevy took this into consideration while designing the mid-engine Corvette, they could make the mid-engine iteration of their most iconic car tame, which would eliminate its competitiveness against the European sports car giants. Either way, we’re excited to see what news comes this year and how the car itself is received.

4) Rolls Royce Cullinan

Most of you reading this article probably won’t be buying one of these any time soon, and neither are we. This doesn’t stop us from being excited for how Rolls Royce will make their mark on the luxury SUV world. Rolls Royce has always been the staple of luxury in motoring, and the new Cullinan could cement their name as the pinnacle of luxury and exuberance. With the drastic increase in demand for high-end and sporty SUVs, every major manufacturer is getting into the game; Lamborghini with the Urus, for example.

Rolls Royce confirmed the development of the Cullinan, but the car was set to be released in 2017 and on the market in 2018. That date has since passed so the best we can hope for is to see the final product this year. The styling is one thing, but its safe to say that it will be big and have a powerful presence. What’s more interesting is the interior. Rolls Royce have embraced some new technology with the new Phantom, but the star feature of the Phantom is the Gallery. Its a space on the dashboard where you can feasibly ask Rolls Royce to display anything you’d like (if you have Rolls money, maybe a wall of $100 bills?). The Cullinan will likely have more space inside for customization, and we’re extremely excited to see what Rolls Royce and their customers can come up with.

3) Kia Stinger

Certainly the most budget friendly car on our list, this is a car we’re sure will surprise people. Packing a 3.3L Twin-Turbo V6 that propels 365HP to the rear wheels, this car will be responsible for many smiles (and, we suspect, a few tire marks). It already made an appearance at SEMA, sliding about like a ferocious… hamster? Kia’s evolution as a car brand has been pretty incredible, and this marks a brand new chapter. It’s something nobody has ever seen from them, and new things always excite us. It’s very possible that the smiles generated from this car will be from the fact that a Kia is capable of breaking traction, but the resulting happiness is whats important. There’s one thing we can’t argue with, and it’s that the Stinger look good. With its budget-friendly price, the aftermarket and tuning community will certainly embrace it with open arms, which will probably result in some very interesting concoctions.

2) Range Rover Velar

Yes, it’s another SUV. This one’s a bit more practical though. The Range Rover Velar starts at just $49,900, but with some options like the 3.0L Supercharged V6, the price could easily exceed $65,000. That still seems like a pretty good deal considering you’re still getting a leather-clad, air-ride-equipped, off-road going, workhorse that’s also capable of doing the school run in style and comfort. Also, we think it’s one of the better looking Land Rovers out there, maybe second to the Evoque.

1) Mclaren BP23

Inspired by the legendary and iconic Mclaren F1, the BP23 is a 3-seater hybrid hypercar that should be a successor to the P1. There’s not a whole lot of new out about it, we do know a few things:

  • “BP23” is just a code name
  • it will be a 3-seater as Mclaren was seen testing its 3 seat layout using a 720S
  • Mclaren claims that it will be the most powerful and aerodynamic road car available

Those are some bold claims, but Mclaren has a built a track record recently of surpassing even their own claims (the 720S reportedly registered more power on the dyno than advertised), and we’re most excited to see what the now legendary car maker will do to continue its legacy. If the new Mcalren Senna is any indication, the BP23 will be utterly sensational.
